Hey Blogger Babes! Today’s topic is all about Instagram. In past blog posts I have talked about how Instagram can drive blog traffic and build relationships with brands, but today I want to talk about focusing on your Instagram brand. So many times we forget that our pictures tell a story, that’s connected to a bigger story (our feed). Before I really started focusing on my feed I focused on numbers (how many followers I had). I would focus on joining Instagram loop giveaways (which are great to grow your follower account), but I lacked the most important thing, building and curating images that spoke to my brand. I wanted to learn how to develop a feed that was uniform, sent a message, and provided people an insight into the things that spoke to me. So I began to do some research on developing a beautiful Instagram feed. Pinterest was a big help, as there were a few bloggers who spoke on the topic. Today, I am sharing some tips that I have helped me curate a beautiful Instagram account while telling my story. If you enjoy these tips don’t forget to follow my page for daily delights (If you’d like :-))!
Tip 1: Color Scheme. The Instagram accounts that I love are those that have a color scheme. This means that there feed has one particular filter or a few colors that stays consistent throughout the feed. Can you tell what mine are? I tend to shift more to the bright filters, focusing on whites, shades of pink, and hints of green (think nature?). If you stay consistent with your filters people will feel more connected to your feed.
Tip 2: Symmetry. A blogger once told me, “focus on symmetry, try to make sure that your pictures are uniform or even. For example if you are in front of a building, focus on making sure that building is in the center and even. Or try to capture it at a different angle but making sure that the items in the picture are equal.
Tip 3: 50/50. I like to mix up my photos with other instagrammer photos. Especially if they have a similar color scheme like mine. But always remember to give credit to the photographer! I like to use the photo icon on my phone and then @ the person’s account.
Tip 4: Tell a story. Instagram is a way for people to get to know you. Share what your thinking, what you purchased, what your day looks like. Allow your readers to get to know you.
Tip 5: Use Hashtags. In order for others to see your beautifully crafted Instagram it’s important to use the appropriate hashtags that will help get those beautiful photos exposure to new readers. My advice, follow Instagram accounts that share a similar story feed such as yourself, then see what hashtags they are using. I like to copy all my hashtags in my notes section on my phone then copy and paste them to the photo of the day.
Tip 6: Don’t follow everyone. Follow feeds that inspire you, this will help you generate creative ideas yourself. I used to follow people just so they would follow me, but then I stopped because I didn’t want to clutter my account with a bunch of miscellaneous accounts that never shared photos I enjoyed or inspired me.
Tip7: Focus on your feed. Every time I take a picture, I think of how it will look with my feed and then I focus on how I want to edit it, which I will share in a later post.
Tip 8: Determine if you Instagram is apart of your business brand, my Instagram is apart of my blog, so I want to make sure the images also reflect the brand of my blog. Create a personal private account to connect with friends and family.
Tomorrow or Today, clean out your Instagram account, unfollow accounts that don’t inspire you. You may lose followers, but don’t let that hinder your branding process, because you will gain authentic readers who will connect with your feed. Next, follow accounts that inspire you creatively. Then take snapshots of photos you enjoy and begin trying to recreate those images yourself. This takes practice, you will begin to see your feed become more unison.
I hope you enjoyed these tips and let me know how your assignment goes!
